Eid Moubarak!!!
Holidays are always interesting at my house. Both Arab and American cultures tend to merge. My mom and I have been wrapping grape leaves (dulmas or wraq aineb or whatever you choose to call it) making pineapple upside down cake and baklava! Grape leaves is a Mediterranean dish and pineapple side down cake is definitely not middle eastern. If your at my house for thanksgiving you will not only find a turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes but several Lebanese dishes as well. And on the fourth of July (or anytime during grilling season), next to the hotdogs and hamburgers there will be kefta, shish tawook, and kebob grilling. You would also find chips and tabouli, carrots and celery, pita, humus and baba gahnouj. (Sorry for the horrible arabic spelling...i just can't seem to write arabic in english). Whatever the holiday there will always be both american and lebanese food at my house.
I have to admit Lebanese food is my favorite and my mom is the best cook in the world. (I realize I am biased). I'm so lucky to get to eat it everyday.
(I know the secret to making humus taste amazing...if you pay me enough i just might share it with you...hehehe)
Both my uncle and aunt are getting to return from Hajj and I really wish I was in Lebanon and Syria right now. I can't wait to go back. I'm already homesick for it.
Eid Moubarak!!!
