Peace in the Middle East

I wish I could say that I will see peace in the Middle East before I die, but I know that is naive thinking. I've always been an optimist. Always seeing the glass as half full.

There is so much conflict there. Is peace even possible? To have peace, there must be enough people who truly want it. It has to be worth more than the fight. Each side must compromise. They must each give up something. Peace isn't free and war is costly. Is the fight worth people dying everyday? What price can we put on a human life? We put a price on it everyday. Every time someone dies we pay. Not just us as a nation but us as the world. The world pays heavily. Or is it that human life, human existence is not really worth that much to us. If it was then why risk someone's life everyday. Why, because something else is worth more. What could possibly be worth more? Freedom? Liberty? Power? Money? Survival?

The cease-fire will be short lived. The Sharm al-Sheikh Summit will be like all the other summits. Violence between Israel and the Palestinians will continue. Am I being pessimistic? No, I'm being realistic. I understand both sides of the fight. Both Israel and the Palestinians have too much to lose.

What does the cease-fire mean? It means that another life will be saved and not lost. It means for today both Israelis and Palestinians can feel a tad safe. I hope both Israel and the Palestinians can come to a peaceful agreement, but to think that is to believe the impossible. To have peace, would be a miracle. I hope that I will see it in my lifetime but I know the chance of that happening is very slim.
