Another Great Day!!!

Bryon and I took the subway for the very first time today. We get to the subway station and all I see are men everywhere. So I walked pass the men and there they were, all the women waiting to get in the first 3 cars. The subway was not what I thought it would be. It’s really nice and I it has cool tile designs. It seems much cleaner than the subway in NYC. Anyways, so we get off the subway and headed in the wrong direction and it took us about 40 minutes to get to work. Hopefully, we don’t get lost tomorrow.

So on our way home from the subway, we asked this guy where the closest ATM was located and he walked us there and invited us to his shop. He sells scented oils and has flowers in the oasis that he presses for oil. He had pictures of Muhammad Ali and Dustin Hoffman who had been in his shop. We chilled there for an hour or so, had some Pepsi, and learned about perfume and how alcohol affects it, and how they press the flowers. It was one of the coolest experiences I’ve had so far. I love meeting Egyptians especially the shopkeepers and strangers on the street. And interacting with them has helped me to improve my Arabic, well at least practice. There are only a few people I speak Arabic with one of which is Tamer and the other Mae. My boss told everyone at work that after my first week that they all should start speaking with me in Arabic all the time, in order to improve my Arabic. I think once I start to speak to him in Arabic he’ll be surprised by how much I know. I understand about 70% of things people say. Hopefully by the end of my traineeship, I will understand everything. When most people hear me speak Arabic, the first question they usually ask is if I’m Lebanese. Oh and my favorite Egyptian Arabic word is wala’a.

What else happened today? My bra broke at work, but I managed to fix it temporarily. It’s now useless. I ripped two holes in my pants. Hopefully, I can fix them. I’m sick. I thought since I’ve been here for a week, that I wouldn’t get sick, but it finally caught up with me. No vendor food for awhile. Hopefully, it will all pass quickly.

Everyone came over and hung out for awhile. I have so much fun chillin with them. Well, except for one person. No worries. Everyone will hate him soon enough : P hehehehe…
